Social Media – more than just Tweeting
An associate of mine was very proud to announce that they had embraced the world of social media and started “tweeting”. They felt that know they were “out there” it would make a difference to their sales.
He came down to earth with a bump when I asked him what his strategy was. He simply didn’t have one. His idea was to sprayfire his account with tweets about his product and hope that sales would grow!
This kind of thinking simply does not work. Joining Twitter or any other of the social media platforms will not add any value to your business unless you have a good plan. Twitter alone, whilst building a personal reputation with your audience, can not be relied upon as the sole tool in your toolbox. You need to have a good plan that targets a number of platforms, relevant for your business sector and ideas on how to use those platforms to your advantage.
Linking your website with a blog, twitter, networking sites like LinkedIn, Ecademy etc can definitely funnel visitors to your product and ultimately translate to sales, however a scatterfire approach is unlikely to capture the customers you want.
Putting together a strategy, linking any existing profiles and platforms together can be done quickly and relatively low-cost. Making sure you have a strategy in place, and evaluating the platforms that give you the best returns will definitely help to reach those all important customers.
